The name Old Jail Museum conjures up images of leg irons and prison uniforms dawning the jail house strips. However, the museum's name can be somewhat misleading. The museum which contains artifacts dating from the 1800's operates in the former Lamar County Jail, thus the name Old Jail Museum.
Museum Director, Shanna English has procured artifacts ranging from authentic buggies and carriages manufactured in Barnesville to antique toys and dolls. She has diligently researched the peices on display and can share fascinating stories on each piece. Historical documents dating to the early 1800's are also housed at the Old Jail Museum.
