              Gang Resistance
              Education and Training

The G.R.E.A.T. Program (Gang Resistance Education and Training) was developed in 1991 as a cooperative effort of the Arizona Police Department and the Arizona Department of Education.

Pictured above Sgt. Anthony Kendall takes questions on Law Enforcement duties.

Sgt. Maggie Moreland, certified as a G.R.E.A.T. teacher, heads the G.R.E.A.T. program at the Lamar County Middle School. The program teaches to resist the pressure that lead to gang involvement by teaching cultural sensitivity, conflict resolution, goal setting and meeting basic needs. Sgt. Moreland share with students her personal experiences and tradegies she faced growing up.

Gang related crimes have been reduced to a bare minimum since the G.R.E.A.T. Program began.
